WHAT READERS ARE SAYING
This is a powerful testament to the inner strength that comes from a realization that power is always given and never taken. To emerge from such unthinkable abuse with a still gentle heart that allows her to treat each person she meets based on their individual actions and not with the weight of the scars of her abuse is remarkable.

ABOUT BEATEN
Would you believe me if I told you I was the most insecure girl ever? If you knew me, you wouldn’t believe it either. I remember growing up as a little girl, I was always being told how pretty I was.
It was fairly odd for me because I never really saw what everybody else saw. It didn’t matter because the majority of everyone—from adults and not just family members—would tell me. You would have thought with all this assurance of my beauty, I would have believed them, but I didn’t. They say a person can be their worst critic. Well, that was me. I was that person.
There was a reason I was so critical of myself. I didn’t know it then being so young, but there was this deep dark hole in my heart. It was a sadness that existed that wouldn’t go away. No matter where I was, it followed. No matter how happy I tried to be, it always found a way to take away my happiness
